Broward County Animal Care & Adoption Dawn serves as a volunteer at the Fort Lauderdale shelter. It is a truly rewarding experience to help animals in need and work with the most kind and caring people in Broward. If you are interested in volunteering please visit: http://www.broward.org/ANIMAL/VOLUNTEERS/Pages/Default.aspx Dawn also worked as a volunteer to create Dog Smarts 101, a free one hour class that covers the basics of responsible dog ownership and positive reinforcement training.

Humane Society of Broward County Walk for the Animals Wow is the only way I can describe this great experience. The annual Walk for the Animals, benefiting the Humane Society of Broward County, is an amazing opportunity to help animals while enjoying an exciting event. Thanks to my generous sponsors, we raised over $1,000 most years that I have participated. An estimated 4,500 people and more than 3,000 dogs join me each year walking for this great cause. We are treated to appearances by the Humane Society dog mascot and Sebastian, the UM Ibis, and the usual pancake breakfast provided by IHOP. My pack, Animal Assisted raises over $20,000 each year! Maddie enjoys this event where she can socialize with other dogs and many people. Breaking The Chain The Humane Society of Broward County is trying to end the suffering of dogs forced to live on chains in our community. Dogs are social animals and need to live close to their families. The isolation is terribly stressful and causes many behavioral problems such as aggression. Furthermore, dogs forced to live outside are typically malnourished, full of parasites, and filthy. Click here to see what you can do to help introduce legislation to outlaw this blatant cruelty.
