Group Classes at Plantation Heritage Park

A new program to provide training and obedience skills for dog owners was launched this year by The Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT). The program, aptly named Canine Life and Social Skills (C.L.A.S.S.), uses positive reinforcement techniques to teach proper behavior and manners, enabling pet owners to take their dogs to public places such as outdoor patios, hotels and retail stores that allow pets.

The C.L.A.S.S. curriculum is based on using fun games and exercises to test and develop real life skills and manners for dogs.  This is an intermediate level course.  At the K9 BA level, Students will practice skills including wait at the door, recall, loose leash walking and attention, greetings, leave it, waiting for a food bowl, stay, settle, give and take, and tricks.  Dog owners interested in enrolling their dogs will find it helpful to have completed a basic obedience class or basic obedience private training as a prerequisite.

The C.L.A.S.S. program focuses on using positive reinforcement when training to create a harmonious relationship between dog and owner.  For more information about class, please visit www.mydoghasclass.com.

Our next class begins Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 10am.  We will skip class on March 3 to allow students to enjoy the Humane Society Walk for the Animals.  The remaining classes are scheduled for 3/10/12, 03/17/12, 03/24/12, 3/31/12, 04/07/12 all at 10am.  Classes will be held every Saturday at 10am for 5 more consecutive weeks.  The cost is $110 per dog and there must be at least one adult handler per dog.  The $110 fee does not include the park entrance fee of $1.50 per person per lesson.  The dog student must be at least 5 months of age and have a current Broward (or other county) County Rabies/Registration tag.   Dogs that are aggressive with humans are not allowed.

What to bring on the first day of class: the dog student, collar (no prongs or choke), a six foot leash (no retractable leashes), and a bag of favorite treats cut or broken into small pieces.  We will meet in the parking lot by the park management office.
