Rally for Fun

Group Lessons at Plantation Heritage Park

Rally is a fun and exciting team sport for dogs and their handlers!  Dog and Handler teams navigate a course with numbered signs indicating different exercises to perform such as Sit-Down-Sit, Straight Figure 8, Sit-Walk Around. Teams navigate the course at a brisk, continuous performance without direction from the judge. Handlers are encouraged to talk to their dogs during the performance.

Recommended skills for enrollment are: sit and down on cue, beginner stay in both a sit and down, starting of heel and a desire to learn more and have fun!

In this class, we will continue advancing our dogs' obedience skills as we learn the basics of Rally. Rally has become one of the most popular dog sports over the past several years.

In this course, the Level 1 APDT exercises will be demonstrated and discussed, and opportunities to practice each exercise will be given each week. We will practice short courses and basic skills each week and have some fun! Each dog-handler team will receive a copy of the Level-1 exercises for practice at home as the weeks progress, as well as a variety of handouts each week to help you train your dog to heel and perform the necessary skills to be successful in rally competitions.

Rally (or Rally Obedience) is an interactive dog sport that combines skills learned for basic and competition obedience exercises into a course where the dog and handler move from station to station completing each exercise. It is intended to be an opportunity to practice and advance the skills learned in your basic Obedience classes. Teamwork and fun will be emphasized in this class!

Rally is a terrific dog activity which helps build a positive working relationship between dog and owner. Teams are allowed to use plenty of encouragement and give feedback to the dog even while competing.

Young, old, pure breed dogs and mixed breed dogs, handicapped and fully-functioning are welcome in APDT Rally!

"Yes! You can talk to your dog!" Enjoy your time in the ring in APDT Rally!
